South Shore & Cape Cod Portrait Photography – Best of 2012

Looking back on 2012, I can say it may have been one of the best years of my life. I stopped “punching the clock” in January. God blessed me with a healthy baby girl. I started my own business. And to top it off, I have been over joyed every single day.

Looking back through all the photos that filled up my 1TB external hard drive (that’s a lot), I narrowed down 5 images that were my absolute favorite this year. Focusing on portrait photography has given me the gift of preserving the little moments I may have otherwise forgotten.

lifestyle portrait

My son, with remnants of his first black eye still showing, playing on the porch. At 2 years old, my little man was starting to show his personality, his independence and numerous funny faces. He was fascinated by ants this day. Although he loved watching them, he was scared if they got too close. Thank goodness for this photo that will always remind me of that early spring day.

pettiskirt portrait

This photo was one of my first personal projects. Armed with a bag full of pettiskirts, tutus, headbands and costume jewelry, we set out for a teddy bear picnic. This little lady was such a doll drinking tea with her favorite friends. She also sang me an amazing hardcore version of the ABC song. Because this was a personal project, I was able to be creative with my edit style, pushing the boundaries of art and portrait.

white mountains

My favorite vacation spot is the White Mountains in New Hampshire. This is the view from a hotel we frequent there. It’s also where we stayed when my husband popped the question. It is where we go every fall for our family vacation. I am thrilled to be offering sessions in the White Mountains this year to my Senior clients. This photo takes me to a place of peace and tranquility that I have only found in the mountains of New Hampshire.

I snapped this portrait of my 3 month old daughter this summer. Her eyes are now more blue than grey. Her cheeks are still as rosy. Her pout has not changed, and is her look of choice. I took a series of photos on this day of both my son and daughter. They were lying together on my bed. When you zoom in you can see my silhouette in the light of the window.

newborn portrait photography cape cod

This is my absolute favorite photo of 2012. My very first newborn session. I was lucky to have a 85 degree day in March (what?!). Still healing from my c-section, I hobbled out a bunch of props to the yard. I used my husband as an assistant. We went out to the driveway and got these shots of my precious angel. I only had a short period of time while my son napped to get this done. This photo was by far my best that day. I have a 16×24 mounted print of it hanging above my little girl’s crib. I was never able to do another sleepy session with her. She became too alert by 10 days. I am so thankful to have gotten this shot when I did.

So that wraps up 2012. I am so excited to start 2013 with the launch of Pearl Portrait Seniors and continuing family, children and newborn photography with Pearl Portrait Photography. Portrait photography is my passion. I am beyond grateful to have these moments of my life preserved. Here’s to many great adventures in 2013!

Secret kept! Family Portraits

This fall I was contacted by 2 young ladies wanting to surprise their moms with new family photos of just the kids. I was blown away not only by the thoughtfulness of this gift, but how both girls really appreciated having a true family keepsake. In a world of digital, teenagers chose a canvas.

We met up on a beautiful fall day and each older sister wrangled together their younger brothers. Both families were wearing coordinated outfits thanks to Big Sis I’m sure. They were all so polite, courteous and reflected a true sense of the word “family”. May I add, have you ever tried to tell teenaged boys what to wear, how to wear it AND get them in front of a camera?! These girls were AMAZING!

When the package arrived with Mom’s awaited Christmas gift, I was beyond excited for December 25th to get here. It was well worth the wait. On Christmas morning I received a text letting me know that a simple photo, one that I took, brought a mother to tears. To know I made someone that happy was the BEST Christmas present I could have asked for.

As a mother myself, I can only hope that when my kids are teenagers, they too will appreciate the importance of a family portrait. I can only hope next year I get to do more of these “secret sessions”. It was the highlight of my year!

Family Portraits – The Fun of it All

Sometimes I think to myself, “Gee, I really need to get a family portrait done. Here I am with this beautiful family and I don’t have one picture of all of us together. I know if I don’t do this soon, I will forever regret it.”

Fortunately, my clients know the importance of taking some time out to get the family together and get some pictures taken. I have done a bunch of sessions this past month and I love seeing the special relationships each family has. Whether it’s Big Sis picking out her younger siblings outfits, or the way a son wants to be close to Mom, every session has a special moment.

Last week I had the pleasure of meeting two wonderful young men. I had a blast running around the park with them, watching them climb trees and jump over rocks. While scrolling through my reel of shots from the day, it was the very last one that was my favorite. No, this may not be what hangs above the mantel on a 16×24 canvas, but it is my favorite family portrait I have taken all year.
